Our main office, modern packhouse & coolstore complex is situated in Umukuri Road – Riwaka. The Fairfield Orchard operations are spread over many hectares of premium growing land in the Riwaka and Brooklyn Valleys. Our main focus is to produce high-quality fruit for the international and local markets. Supporting regional & community growth is also important to us and we are a major horticultural employer in the region.

We work year round to bring you the best New Zealand Apples & Kiwifruit

We work tirelessly throughout the year to bring you the best possible fruit. Seasonal work peaks in late summer to autumn as the picking & packing season gets underway. During winter and spring we spend a lot of our time making sure our apple trees and kiwifruit vines are in the best possible condition to produce an optimum and premium crop of the best fruit.

Winter, Spring & Early Summer

Pruning

Taking up a large part of the cooler winter months, pruning enables our trees to put all their energy into producing blossoms and fruit and lets in optimum light for fruit colouration. Kiwifruit pruning is all overhead work involving cutting out old vines and tying a vines for the next season.

Thinning

In late spring and early summer after the blossom has fallen, our skilled thinners move through the orchards selectively removing fruit and “thinning” bunches of baby apples so the trees will grow the ideal number of perfectly sized juicy apples.

Crop Protection & Development

Spring and early summer are where pour all our efforts into sustainable practices to ensure the best results for our future crop.

Late Summer & Autumn

Fruit Picking

We start our much anticipated fruit picking work in early February through until mid May. Both modern mobile platforms that use conveyor belts to feed the picked fruit into bins and traditional ladder and bag style picking are used for harvest. We harvest by hand to bring you our very best fruit.

Packing

Our packhouses operate from late summer to early winter. The fruit is gently washed, sorted and graded by machinery, then the apples carefully placed into trays, packers turn fruit to best side up and place the trays into cartons by hand, where it then goes by conveyor belt to be stack and labelled by machinery.

We are very much a quality focused growing company and it's here that we see the results from our months of preparations. Our team works hard to make sure you get the best quality fruit possible by adhering to strict quality control processes.
