Solar Energy powers Fairfield Orchards into a sustainable future

Fairfield Orchards Powers Ahead with Solar Energy

Future-Proofing Fairfield Orchards with Sustainable Solar Energy.

Fairfield Orchards has taken a major step toward a more sustainable future with the installation of a 600kW solar energy system. This investment reflects the orchard’s long-term commitment to environmental responsibility and energy resilience.

By harnessing the power of the sun, Fairfield Orchards is preparing for the future—offsetting expected increases in electricity costs and reducing reliance on the grid during peak operational months from February to August. In the off-season, excess energy will be fed back into the grid, further improving efficiency and supporting the wider community.

“As we continue to grow as a business, we’re focused on keeping our environmental footprint in check,” says the team at Fairfield. “This is about future-proofing—creating a more resilient operation, both economically and environmentally.”

The move also opens the door for future innovations, like electric tractors and more energy-efficient technologies, helping ensure Fairfield Orchards stays at the forefront of sustainable horticulture in the Nelson Tasman region.
